This particular wetland <span id=\"aab0b45c-e41f-41cc-8138-4910aad23f37\" class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\">accommondates<\/span> a variety of Michigan Birds.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_194\" style=\"width: 364px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/nature-photography.daystarbooks.com\/wp_blog\/images-of-birds-nature-birds-of-the-gods\/images-of-birds-green-heron-2\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-194\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-194\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\" wp-image-194 \" title=\"michigan birds-green-heron\" src=\"https:\/\/nature-photography.daystarbooks.com\/wp_blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/images-of-birds-green-heron-2-682x1024.jpg\" alt=\"Michigan Birds\" width=\"354\" height=\"531\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-194\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Green Heron Michigan Birds<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The battery of Green Herons <span id=\"63427cf2-7ed7-4926-ae1b-27651f6a8c87\" class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\">were flying<\/span> from branch to branch, low branches, high branches, with some of the birds sitting motionless, single and pairs. \u00a0Another pair of herons was perched together (one slightly behind the other) appeared as though they were in deep meditation, contemplating Michigan wetland secrets or something. Or, maybe like me, they were just enjoying the spectacle of quick flight aerobics that filled the wetland air space as each these green birds of Michigan darted about.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1263\" style=\"width: 368px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1263\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\" wp-image-1263\" src=\"https:\/\/nature-photography.daystarbooks.com\/wp_blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/Green-Heron-Sun-Rise-683x1024.jpg\" alt=\"Birds of Michigan Wetlands\" width=\"358\" height=\"537\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nature-photography.daystarbooks.com\/wp_blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/Green-Heron-Sun-Rise-683x1024.jpg 683w, https:\/\/nature-photography.daystarbooks.com\/wp_blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/Green-Heron-Sun-Rise-200x300.jpg 200w, https:\/\/nature-photography.daystarbooks.com\/wp_blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/Green-Heron-Sun-Rise.jpg 700w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 358px) 100vw, 358px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-1263\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Birds of Michigan Wetlands<\/p><\/div>\n<p>One of the Green Herons was perched in full predator pose, standing like a statue staring intently, downward <span id=\"52c4b4df-9a88-40d2-869a-90bd95fc2d1e\" class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\">at<\/span> the surface of the water, waiting for the perfect moment to strike. \u00a0With <span id=\"c0929f20-5916-4902-933b-6bd2719cc043\" class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\">it&#8217;s<\/span> head hunched, neck elongated; stretched to a length twice <span id=\"d48da727-0dd7-4ae8-95f8-a018ff6e67fa\" class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\">it&#8217;s<\/span> body length, and with feet that curled around the branch looking more like alien <span id=\"a17d5b6f-7b8b-4c67-8149-57d35789be15\" class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\">tendacles<\/span> than typical bird feet.<\/p>\n<p>This Michigan bird is one of the strangest looking creatures in all the bird inhabitants of the wetlands and can <span id=\"9ac3cbd9-ecbf-4fba-9d5d-f6bc661a447f\" class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\">provides<\/span> some of the most interesting nature photography of this peculiar elastic neck <span id=\"c89a3b0b-ebff-4a3b-8644-866562d01a9a\" class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\">bird<\/span>.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_343\" style=\"width: 402px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/nature-photography.daystarbooks.com\/wp_blog\/green-heron-michigan-bird\/greeh-heron-half-heah-mouth-michigan-birds-photo-by-ike-austin\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-343\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-343\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-343\" title=\"Green Heron Half head, half mouth Michigan Birds - Photo by Ike Austin\" src=\"https:\/\/nature-photography.daystarbooks.com\/wp_blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/Greeh-Heron-Half-heah-mouth-Michigan-Birds-Photo-by-Ike-Austin.jpg\" alt=\"Green Heron Half head, half mouth\" width=\"392\" height=\"588\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-343\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Green Heron Half head, half mouth<\/p><\/div>\n<p><em><span id=\"bba904b0-42d6-4665-acb1-c0f7a630f49b\" class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\">Butorides<\/span> <span id=\"0e968f78-06c2-4f01-a5b6-f7b169596cc1\" class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\">Verescens<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Nature Photography &#8211;\u00a0<\/strong>Michigan Bird Identification<\/p>\n<p><strong>Photo Taken:<\/strong>\u00a0Kensington Metro Park, Michigan<\/p>\n<p><strong>About the Green Heron<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Appearance:<\/strong>\u00a0The Green Heron is <span id=\"6bbba1c4-6c79-4c09-ac87-ff5502a7b8ac\" class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\">a<\/span> elastic bird. At times the Green Heron is hunched in and appears short and stubby, long yellow legs, and long black beak with yellow eyes. Other times the Green Heron can stretch <span id=\"08f72e8a-0bdc-4a68-9cf1-bfc235c4957f\" class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\">twicce<\/span> its length. The Green Heron can swivel his head 180 degrees. Wing span can can extend to 3.5 feet.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Adult<\/strong>: Color is Dark forest green with <span id=\"4e7dac25-8910-4aea-a4b9-b640a4325145\" class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\">aztec<\/span> like designs on it&#8217;s covert and wing bars plumage.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Flight Characteristics:<\/strong>\u00a0Swift and quick wings in flight and typically flapping their wings as they jump from tree. Green Herons prefer open wooded marshes, wetlands and forests.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mating Habits:<\/strong>\u00a0The Great Heron start courtship as early as April, <span id=\"f049238c-14d5-439e-b1c4-a5ce05a0d91a\" class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\">listenf<\/span> for their mating <span id=\"bfdd2ff2-665a-44cf-accf-b2642ffa7fb4\" class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\">skreeching<\/span> calls. The Green Heron will choose one mate for the entire year.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Migration:<\/strong>\u00a0Traveling mostly during the night, the Green Heron returns from <span id=\"c24bb9cb-9764-4cfa-b61c-d16f262a8dd9\" class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\">wammer<\/span> climates in early spring.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Nesting:<\/strong>\u00a0The Green Heron will construct a nest 10-12 inches in diameter in low growing shrubs or as high as twenty feet up in trees. Incubates 3-5 pale blue eggs for <span id=\"fe15b9eb-3a53-4c80-af33-672e3f347992\" class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\">appx<\/span> 19-21 days. Young are <span id=\"b98c0136-834a-4fee-812d-5c026e4ab362\" class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\">feed<\/span> by <span id=\"4e80907a-ecb0-4679-915d-fda71b081b3a\" class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\">regergitation<\/span> and independence is gained in as little as 30-35 days.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Off Spring:<\/strong>\u00a0(Called Chicks)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Feeding:<\/strong>\u00a0Day hunter.
